There goes my excuse for sitting on the sofa…

There’s a lot of star power in this issue of HFM, and between them, these fitness heroes have destroyed every procrastination excuse I had. When cover star and reality TV champion Jake Quickenden found himself in the jungle on I’m A Celebrity, he didn’t let that stop him from working out. He just enlisted bushy bits of jungle flora and fauna, including Carl Fogarty, to create a jungle-gym. It’s that kind of commitment to fitness that helped Jake secure his latest gig as ambassador and blasted that age-old ‘got no kit’ excuse.

Then there’s Tour de France winner Chris Froome (p21). In 2014’s Tour, Chris broke his left wrist and right hand, but continued the race, retiring only after a third crash left him ‘physically unable to ride’. Our exclusive interview reveals how he’s targeting the yellow jersey again, and why my ‘I feel a bit sore’ excuse is no longer valid. Just to hammer it home, top UK CrossFitter Will Kane competed this year’s CrossFit Games stages with a cracked fibula. Thanks, Will (see p14).

And what about Tom Hardy, the anti-hero of Mad Max: Fury Road? He may be a Hollywood leading man but, as another HFM exclusive shows (p26), that doesn’t mean he didn’t undergo a 13.5kg weight loss to get into the head of this iconic role – which is exactly why my ‘I don’t have the energy for that’ excuse has worn thin.

Finally, there’s Dwayne Johnson, AKA The Rock (p66) – he bounced back after his first career as a sportsman was destroyed by injury. It’s no surprise to hear that’s killed my ‘I’m not cut out for this’ excuse. I’d better get out from behind this desk…
